Baseball

The Mathews family, on spring break from Covenant Seminary, were in the Starkville area. We went over on Wednesday for a baseball game against Birmingham Southern College. The Bulldogs won easily. It was great to catch up with Michael and Hillary. Michaels sister, Betsey was also at the game and told us the exciting news that she is moving to Birmingham. It is always nice to have more Bulldog fans here. A former roommate of mine from college, Gary, was also able to drive from Jackson to meet us at the game. We had Little Dooeys and enjoyed catching up with old friends. I wish that I had pictures of the two Mathew boys. They were decked out in their MSU wear and looked really cute!

8 month portraits

The last time we had professional pictures taken of Little Philip was 8 weeks old. He pretty much cried the entire time so we only bought one pose. For his eight month portraits, he was such a ham! He smiled the entire time. Here are a few of our favorite moments.

New Toy

Last week Renie went to Kids Market and bought lots of "new" clothes for Philip. However, Philip's favorite purchas is this school bus. There are also two bags of books that Philip loves to put in his mouth.

Family Visit

For their spring break my grandmother, mother, and sister (with her two children) visited us for a couple of nights. Renie and I took off a day from work to take Lil Philip to the zoo. We also had a day of working in the yard.

March Madness

Today is the second day of the opening round games of the NCAA basketball tournament in which UAB will play Kentucky tonight. Today is also St. Patrick's Day. For one of these reasons everyone on campus is wearing green today. Not sure which. For the first day my bracket went 13-3. I hope that my pics continue to win. I have two set of pics that are the same until the sweet-sixteen. In honor of the Mathews family I have Texas picked in one to win it. For those of you that are counting, it would make them the current champion off all three major sports.

Miss State at UAB

Last night the undefeated MSU Baseball Dawgs came to Birmingham for a game against UAB. Lil Philp and I planned on going to the game for a couple of innings. However, moments before we walked out the door at 5:55, Philip got fussy. We checked his temperature and he was running a slight fever. So instead of watching the dawgs play I got to watch Baby Einstein. State beat UAB 20-4 to remain undefeated. The next time the baseball dawgs come to town will be May 24-28 for the SEC Tournament when they will try to repeat as champions. When the football dawgs come to town in the fall I hope that everyone is well!

The picture is of our "sick" son last night.

Happy Birthday Great Grandaddy Wettermark!

We had planned to be in Mobile today for a surprise 90th birthday party for Great Grandaddy Wettermark. Unfortunately, Little Philip came down with a high fever on Thursday that became an ear infection this morning. We were sad to miss the party! After our first dose of antibiotic and some Motrin, Little Philip's fever came down enough for him to crack a little smile and to send this happy birthday wish.

Playtime and Bathtime

Saturday was absolutely gorgeous and the warm weather was a welcome surprise after a bleary and very chilly week. With the sun shining, we took to the front yard to see how many clumps of grass Little Philip could cram into his mouth. We're good parents like that. To be sure that chiggers didn't come to bed with him, we let him splash around in the kitchen sink for his bath. And since the last bath picture we sent out showed a nice bottle of Dawn and so many friends thought we bathed our baby in dishsoap, I was sure to leave out our baby wash of choice, Gerber Grins and Giggles, Oatmeal scent.

Like Father Like Son

Mamie Moss gave us some old pictures of Big Philip as a child. In one picture it looks like he is about 8 months old, just about the age Little Philip is about to be. Can you tell which Philip is which?
